How to play
SmugLeague is a free score predictor for the 2026 World Cup. There's nothing to sign up for, nothing to download and nothing to pay. You predict the score of each match before kickoff, you earn points for how close you get, and you compete on a table against your friends, your office, or the whole world.
1. Call your scores
Open the matches pageand set a scoreline for any upcoming match — say, England 2:1 Scotland. You can change your mind as often as you like until predictions lock, 5 minutes before kickoff — at which point your prediction becomes visible to the other players in your leagues. Nobody can see anyone else's predictions before the lock, so there's no copying off the swot in your league.
2. Earn points
When the final whistle goes, points land automatically: 3 points for the exact score, 2 for the right goal margin, 1 for the right result. The full detail (with examples) is on the scoring page.
3. Start a league with your mates
This is the whole point. On the leagues page, create a league, give it a name, and you'll get a six-character code. Paste it into the group chat. Anyone with the code joins your private table in two taps — no account, no email, no app store. Free leagues hold ten players; League Pro removes the cap and adds organiser tools.
4. Be insufferable about it
After each match day you can share your results — spoiler-free — straight back into the chat. Exact scores earn the 😏. That's not just an emoji; it's a lifestyle.
Common questions
Do I need an account? No. Your predictions are saved to your browser automatically. If you want them to follow you across devices, add your email on the profile page — same identity, same points, no password.
Is there money involved? No. Nobody pays to enter, and there are no cash prizes — the winnings are bragging rights, which last longer anyway. (League organisers can optionally upgrade their league for extra features; players never pay.)
When do predictions lock? Five minutes before the scheduled kickoff of each match — the countdown on every match card counts down to the lock.
